Salento, located at the southern tip of our favorite "booth's heel," is known for its turquoise waters and pristine beaches. Fortunately, not many tourists know about this little paradise.
Before the crowds discover this hidden gem, here are the top 10 beaches to visit.
1. Pescoluse (Maldives of Salento)
Nicknamed for its crystal-clear water and white sands, this beach rivals tropical paradises with very shallow waters. The beach is usually not too crowded, which is ideal even for Ferragosto. Expect to pay around €15 for sunbeds and umbrellas and €4.5 for parking on the street for the full day.
2. Porto Cesareo
A favorite among locals, this beach offers shallow, warm waters perfect for families. Parking fees are around €5, and you can rent equipment for snorkeling for about €10.
3. Torre dell'Orso
Famous for its two towering rocks, "Le Due Sorelle," this beach is a favorite for cliff diving. The nearby pine forest with the sand inside guarantees shade in the hottest periods of summer and a lovely shaded area for picnics. Fom €30/40 it is possible to rent 2 sunbeds and umbrella for the whole day. Expect it to be very crowded!
4. Punta Prosciutto
Another hidden gem, Punta Prosciutto is a thin long slip of white sand less crowded and offers a more tranquil setting. It’s ideal for a peaceful day by the sea. You can easily find a parking spot for around €5 a day. Around the beach, there are a few beach locals and restaurants.
5. Baia dei Turchi
With fine sand and calm waters, this beach is a great place for a relaxed day although it is quite more touristy compared to the others. The beach is free, though parking may cost up to €7. There is only one small local near the beach, so it is better to bring some sandwiches for lunch!
6. Spiaggia di Alimini
This long stretch of sandy beach is perfect for water sports like windsurfing and kitesurfing. Rentals start at around €20 per hour. Parking near the beach is limited, so arrive early to get a spot, otherwise park in the public parking lot in the pine forest and a shuttle will take you to the beach.
7. Torre Lapillo
Another beach known for its calm, shallow waters, but it can get very crowded, therefore, the best time to enjoy it is by going in the evening. You can rent a pedal boat for around €10 an hour.
8. Faraglioni di Torre Sant' Andrea
This stunning natural formation is one of the most scenic spots along the coast. The rocky cliffs and the turquoise water make it a perfect destination for adventurous travelers looking for unique sea views.
